GhostShorts vs Submagic:
One Finishes a Video, One Makes It

Submagic turns footage you shot into something that looks finished. GhostShorts produces the video when there is no footage. These are less like rivals and more like different departments.

If you are on camera, use Submagic

That is an odd thing for a comparison page to say, so here is the reasoning. Submagic is a finishing tool. You bring a clip you filmed and it adds the captions, the B-roll, the hook title and the brand styling. It is the best-known captions product in short form and it earned that.

GhostShorts starts a step earlier and never involves a camera. There is no upload, because the video does not exist yet. You write or generate a script and the finished vertical file comes out.

The only people genuinely choosing between these two are people deciding whether to be on camera at all.

Honest scorecard

🆓

Submagic: free tier and a cheaper Starter

Three watermarked videos free, then $19 a month against our $19.99. Both the free plan and the dollar go their way, and we would rather print that than round it in our favour.

✍️

Submagic: captions are the whole product

Stock B-roll, AI hook titles, brand kits and a caption workflow refined by specialists. If your video already exists and just needs to look finished, that focus shows.

🚫

GhostShorts: no camera anywhere in the process

No filming, no upload, no footage. The video is generated from a script with AI narration across 47 voices and 9 languages. Submagic has no equivalent because it is not trying to.

🧩

GhostShorts: the faceless formats

A Reddit post read over gameplay, a fake text argument, a split screen, a quiz pack. Named layouts for channels where nobody ever appears on screen.

A note on the pricing above

Submagic, narrowly, and they also have a free tier. Their Starter is $19 a month against our $19.99, and their free plan gives you three watermarked videos to try. An older version of this page claimed we were the lower price, which was wrong by a dollar in the wrong direction, and it said nothing about the free plan. Both have been fixed.
Not really, and it is worth saying up front. Submagic takes a video you filmed and makes it look finished: captions, B-roll, hooks, brand styling. GhostShorts makes a video when nothing was filmed. If you are on camera, Submagic is built for you and this page is not going to talk you out of it.
Captions are their whole product, and they are the best-known name in the category for a reason. Ours are word-synced and styled for vertical feeds and they do the job well, but if the only thing you need is the best captioning workflow on footage you already have, they are the specialists.
The AI features run on a credit system separate from your plan, and reviewers consistently flag that credit packs add meaningfully to the monthly cost once you use those features regularly. That is not a criticism of the product, it is just the sort of thing worth modelling against your real volume before you commit. Ours is credit-based too, so run the same exercise on us.
When you are not going to film anything. Submagic assumes a file exists. If your channel is faceless and you have never pointed a camera at yourself, there is nothing for it to caption, and the formats we ship, a Reddit thread over gameplay, a fake text argument, a split screen, are the point of coming here.
